A Thanksgiving thesis
I am thankful….
for prayers that turned to praises
for nights that turned to days
for long nights that stayed
the Lord knew what’s best for the stage.
I am thankful….
for the desire to get into grad school
a seed accompanied with life as a school
for the times I thought all was lost fully
until friends prayed along in fellowship faithfully
the Lord knew the answer was closer than it looked.
I am thankful….
for the good ol’ lab
a cocoon where I learn, unlearn and recap
for the smart, friendly, respectful mates and PI
for questions that need answers, critiques that appraise
the Lord knew the people and the place are never a mistake.
I am thankful….
for the blessing wrapped in being a foreign student
it is a journey more reassuring as a child of God
the cultural diversity and nationality teach me to live in harmony
beyond the differences, I see great minds with unique expressions
the Lord knew these folks would help me be a better scientist and human.
I am thankful….
for tests and exams though wish I could skip
the brutal deadlines and busy to-do lists
for innovative research in its entirety
the failures and successes I keep as souvenirs
the Lord knew my faith would be tested for growth.
I am thankful….
for mentors and teachers
the ones gone before to lead the path
they’ve inspired me to do my part
no matter how little as long as the cause is done better
the Lord knew their iron will sharpen my very blunt iron.
I am thankful….
for difficult decisions made regardless
moving across the country or continent nevertheless
parents turned 60, sister got married in bliss, homesickness
celebrations are not stalled with absence of loved ones
the Lord knew I will learn to trust He is with me always
I am thankful….
for family
my family, shoulders to lean on
my family, the people I never hold back from
my family, the rock holding my anchor in storms
my family, the humane, prayer and praise party
the Lord knew without them it would be much harder.
I am thankful…
for life
for living
for simple things of life
for thriving
the Lord knows in Him we live and move and have our being.
I am thankful…
for past Thanksgivings
for this Thanksgiving
for many more Thanksgiving as the Lord wills.
