War sisters
We come from different spheres of the world
a part sees the sun too early and the other too late
a skin rich with degrees of melanin
a race different and diverse
the heat engulfed us
a war broke out and made the two worlds meet
“Kaaro ojire bi?” to “Good morning, how are you today?”
Eucharisteo found us and made us one
at the feet of Jesus, we met for the savior’s wash
in one spirit, prayed for the truth
to fight this war, we need all the artillery
an armor firmly strapped with a resolve
in fellowship sweet and a sisterhood in Christ
Flee, flee, war sister from what easily besets!
work, work, war sister with fear and trembling!
sing, sing, war sister to bless the Lord from soul-depth!
dance, dance, war sister with the joy that strengthens!
wait, wait, war sister to mount like the eagle!
fight, fight, war sister against the flesh, lust and pride of life!
rejoice, rejoice, war sister in the redemption and resurrection of Jesus Christ!!
––Spring ’20
“Kaaro ojire bi?” is Yoruba language which means good morning, did you sleep well?
(To celebrate my sisters in Christ. For the times we stood together in prayer meeting and bible study in the trying Covid-19 times)
